Heylo: A Digital Leakage Notification System
For people who are living with a stoma, leakage is still the biggest challenge in their daily life. As the world's first digital leakage system for ostomy care, Heylo gives users peace of mind by giving them early information on the status and integrity of their ostomy appliance via the app. Heylo’s sensor layer is embedded with digital leakage sensors that react instantly to leakage from under the baseplate.
From 2023 to 2024, I worked as the main UI designer on the Heylo development team at Coloplast – designing the final features and preparing the app for launch. With tasks such as documenting for regulatory purposes for medical approval, and ensuring accessibility, I also started the initiative of creating a app design system not just for Heylo, but to also use for all future app products in Coloplast.
I worked closely with developers and my UX Designer to come up with a design system and component library for the app – making sure it not only aligned visually with the Coloplast brand identity, but also ensuring high accessibility in terms of colour contrast (in both light and dark mode), text scaling, touch points, etc. As Heylo is classified as a Medical Device – part of my responsibilities as a UI Designer on the team was to meticulously document design flows and decisions.
